On February 17, 2009, we were pleased to announce the verdict of not guilty of Judge Tosti who had refused the presence of a religious sign in a courtroom.

A few hours after the announcement, we were informed that Professor Franco Coppoli was sanctioned because he had refused the presence of a religious sign in a classroom.

Clericalism never accepts its defeats.

The Associazione Nazionale del Libero Pensiero « Giordano Bruno » has immediately protested.

In France, since the Law of Separation of the Churches and the State, clericalism has always sought to call this law into question - and sometimes clericalism has been successful.

In Italy, in spite of the 1946 republican Constitution, clericalism has managed to maintain the 1929 Concordat of Mussolini, including through the 1984-1985 regulations.

The French Libre Pensée (National Federation of the Freethought) and the Associazione Nazionale del Libero Pensiero « Giordano Bruno » declare in no uncertain terms:

Justice and Education do not belong to religions!

Our demand is clear:

No sanction against Professor Coppoli ! No Education under religious signs!

We call upon international solidarity of all secularists, all freethinkers! We call upon all teachers trade unions across the world!
