Sehr geehrter Herr von Beust,
seit einem Jahrhundert haben Ihr Bundesland und unser Land einen gemeinsamen Weg beschritten und Verträge über die Trennung von Staat und Kirche geschlossen.
In Hamburg, wie in Frankreich, hat man erkannt, daß "die Gleichheit der Bürger ohne Ansehen des Standes, der Rasse und der Religion" die Trennung von Staat und Kirche voraussetzt.
Mit
Sorge betrachten wir deshalb die Verhandlungen in Ihrer bürgerlichen
Republik Hamburg mit der evangelischen wie der katholischen
Denomination, um einen Vertrag zwischen Staat und Kirchen zu
vereinbaren.

For one hundred years your state and our country have followed the same path and signed treaties to separate church and state.
In
Hamburg, as in France, it was recognized that “the equality of
citizens without regard to rank, race and religion” requires
the separation of church and state.
It
is therefore with concern that we note the negotiations in your
citizens’ Republic of Hamburg with the Protestant and Catholic
denominations, to agree on a treaty between church and state.

1) Date it by removing the “??” and substituting the correct day in April.
2) Print out two copies on Libre Pensee letterhead.
3) Have both copies signed by lots of people with lots of important-sounding titles (listed in full!)
4) Put them into two Libre Pensee envelopes.
